Basalt

(Ca, Mg, Fe, Al)SiO₄ | Volcanic Rock | Igneous Origin

A fine-grained, dark coloured igneous rock formed from the rapid cooling of lava at the Earth's surface. Composed primarily of plagioclase feldspar, pyroxenes and olivine, it is rich in iron and magnesium. Basalt is commonly found in oceanic crust and volcanic regions, often forming extensive lava flows.
